Hey Austin friends! I wanted to share with y’all my thoughts on a really cool home repair/home maintenance service called PreFix. We recently purchased a new home, and found out about PreFix through a friend. We’ve been working with PreFix for 2 months now, and I am so impressed with their mission and service. So you’re probably wondering, “What is PreFix?” I will share all about it below!
WHAT IS PREFIX?
Prefix is a service offered for those around the Austin, Texas area (Austin, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Lakeway). Think about it as your convenient, one stop shop for home care. With a membership, you get access to a dedicated home manager for everything from on demand repairs to preventative maintenance. Basically, they take out the hassle of calling around trying to get repairs done by different contractors or businesses. They truly make home repairs easy and affordable!
WHAT TYPES OF SERVICES DOES PREFIX OFFER?
PreFix team members are talented technicians trained in plumbing, electrician, HVAC, and appliance repairs. If it’s a complex repair requiring specific licenses, they contract with pre-vetted contractors on your behalf — that means scheduling, negotiating, and following up through the project’s completion.
Along with repairs, they offer preventative maintenance (which we are currently using since our home is still under warranty). With the preventative option, they do a 30 point check on your appliances and home systems 2x a year, which is included for free with your plan. Some of the preventative service includes but not limited to: cleaning AC condenser coils, cleaning faucet aerators and refrigerator condenser coil, inspecting appliances, replacing filters, testing smoke and CO detectors.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH PREFIX
As I mentioned before, we are currently using prefix more for the maintenance service, however, we randomly experienced an issue with our dryer. Our dryer started smoking and randomly stopped working, and prefix answered immediately and came out the next day to address this issue. They ordered the necessary parts, and were back within 48 hours to fix it. They also set us up with a service for washing and drying our clothes in the meantime. This service actually picked up and delivered our clothes to us, which I thought was so cool! Also, just something else to point out, for this repair a Prefix member would pay $40 for the labor and $10 wholesale for the needed part ($50) total and without PreFix, this would have easily been a $350 repair.
